Local Conditions
What Roofs In West Warwick Are Really Like
Comparing roofing companies in West Warwick, RI? West Warwick has a lot of older houses, and much of the older housing grew up around mill villages like Lippitt and Centerville. RTP Roofing gets on the roof and checks it before we quote.
The 2020 census counted 31,012 residents and 14,414 housing units. That is the setting: a small town with a lot of older houses and a lot of roofs.
The mill history tells you about the neighborhood, not about the roof over your kitchen. A house near Lippitt or Centerville may have been reroofed more recently than one built decades later, and the date of the village says nothing either way. We climb up, look at the shingles, flashing and decking, and tell you what is there before anything else is discussed.

Historic
Mill Buildings, Historic Listings, And What They Mean For Your Roof
West Warwick has several properties on the National Register of Historic Places.
Among them are Lippitt Mill at 825 Main St., the Crompton Mill Historic District and the Arctic Mill Historic District on Factory Street. The list also includes Centreville Mill, Royal Mill Complex, Valley Queen Mill, Crompton Free Library, St. Mary's Church and Cemetery, the Silas Clapp House, West Winds and the William B. Spencer House at 11 Fairview Ave.
Those listings name specific buildings and districts. If your address is on or near one of the listed properties, ask the Building and Zoning office whether anything beyond the building permit applies before you choose a material. We will note your current roof material at inspection so you have it in hand when you call.
The Record
The Pawtuxet River And The March 2010 Flood
West Warwick is inland, not coastal, but the river runs through it.
The Pawtuxet River forms where its North and South Branches meet at the village of River Point in West Warwick.
That matters because of March 2010. Heavy rainfall pushed the Pawtuxet River to 21 feet, 12 feet above flood stage, and flooded much of the town. It was described as the worst flooding in over 200 years for the area.
River flooding and roof condition are different problems. Floodwater damages what is at ground level. A roof deals with rain and wind from above, and a flooded basement says nothing about whether your shingles are sound. If a storm left you with a roof leak, see our guide to storm damage and insurance claims, and start with an on-roof inspection.

My house is in an old mill village. Does that mean my roof is old?
